Thanksgiving

We went to my parent's house in Alabama for Thanksgiving this year.  We had a great time.  It was an interesting trip.  Grayson had an ear infection and wasn't feeling too great.  When we stopped for lunch at Subway, he threw up all over me and him.  I felt so bad for the poor little guy, but all things considered, he did really great.  He is quite the trooper.  It was a long day, so we were really glad when we pulled into my parent's driveway.

I have been teaching Grayson a few simple signs and I brought a DVD I had borrowed from the library.  I find it very annoying, but he loves it!  He tends to watch the TV too close, so I put him in this cute chair and he had a lot of fun watching his DVD.

How did he get so big!?

My mom did a beautiful job decorating the table for Thanksgiving.  I had to take a picture.

The meal was delicious!  We ate ourselves into oblivion. Grayson was feeling better, so he even had a little bit of turkey and mashed potatoes.  He tried pumpkin pie for the first time too and he loved it!  He stood right by his dad until he had finished his pie, then he came and stood by me until my pie was gone and finally he went and mooched some more pie from my sister.  We had such a great day and enjoyed spending time with family.

Our poor little buddy was sick the whole time and he was such a trooper and still fun through all of it.   He did need some extra snuggle time when he got a fever.  We took him back to the doctor when we were in Alabama, but it appeared he just had gotten a secondary viral infection.  Poor little guy.

My mom was kind enough to babysit Grayson for us, so we were able to go to the temple and spend a lovely afternoon together.  My mom told me that he really had a good time crawling around outside.  He loved the water feature they had in the backyard and tried to drink out of it.  He is such a curious and cute kid.  He only tried to eat a few leaves and he seemed to really enjoy himself.

We  were also able to attend my nephew Ben's baptism.  It was so great to be able to go and spend time with family on such a special day.

We had to get a picture with all of the sisters and all of our kids.

After the baptism, we all went to lunch together as a family.  It was so much fun and I think the staff got a kick out of all the kids there together.  They brought Grayson some ice cream at the end of the meal and gave him two cookies.  He was so excited about the cookie that he actually gnawed his way through the plastic wrap and was eating it.  He was very upset when I took it away from him.  I think our little man has a sweet tooth.

After a delicious lunch, we went to my parent's cabin for a couple hours.  It was nice to relax.  Grayson thought the cabin was pretty fun.  There were new toys there he hadn't played with before.

He also loves any excuse to explore the shower.

And of course he had to explore everywhere and climb all over everyone.

Grandpa read him some stories.

The trip back was also interesting.  No throwing up this time, but unfortunately he was allergic to the antibiotics he was on for his ear infection, so he was covered in hives for the drive home.  Luckily, he slept most of the way which made it much easier.  We did get stuck in traffic which added a couple hours to our trip.  Thanksgiving traffic is the worst!  We had such a great time visiting with family that it was definitely worth it.

Grayson-isms

This post is going to be a bit of a rambling one.  I was thinking today about some of the little funny things that Grayson does throughout the day that make me smile and I decided I wanted to share.

It was kind of a rough night last night, Grayson did not sleep very well.  I confess I fell asleep in the recliner after I fed Grayson his bottle this morning at 5am, he just happily played with his toys.  I moved to the floor after a while and dozed on and off while he crawled over me and played.  When I opened my eyes at one point, I realized that he had pulled out all of his toys and books.  He had even pulled the picture frames and lamp off of the nightstand.

He sat for a long time and 'read' some books.  He is getting really good at actually opening the books and flipping through the pages.  He really likes the books that have different fabrics and textures. He got a cute Halloween touch and feel book from Trevor's mom and he really likes it.  He knows exactly where all the things are to touch.  When we were driving down to Alabama, he was getting a little fussy towards the end, so I sat in the back with him to keep him entertained.  Even though it was dark we read that book over and over again and he immediately reached for the different textures whenever I turned the page.  He is a clever boy

Today I went to check on Grayson when he was taking his afternoon nap.  I had to carefully open the door, since he has learned how to close the door, so as to not wake him.  When I peeked into the room, I saw Grayson sleeping peacefully surrounded by his dirty laundry.  Apparently he had reached his laundry basket through the crib bars and started pulling out the clothes inside.  It made me laugh.

He likes to take things out of boxes or bags, not so good at putting things back, but he does like taking things out.  He has also discovered drumming and he loves to bang things together to make noise.

He loves to eat and is a really good eater.  If anyone is eating, he knows and he will usually stand right next to you and beg for food.  I would say bananas are one of his favorite foods.  It is usually pretty easy to tell when he likes something because when he takes a bite, he will giggle a little bit and get a big grin on his face.

Baths are a definite highlight of his day, he starts laughing as soon as we go into the bathroom and I turn on the water.  He likes to stick his tongue out and drink some of the water when it's coming out of the faucet.  When he gets some water in his mouth, he looks at me and laughs.  He also really likes splashing and if any water droplets form on the side of the tub he tries to catch them.

Lately, Grayson points at everything.  It sounds like he says 'that' whenever he points at something.  He is incredibly curious and loves to meet new people and see new things.  He is such a smart little boy.  He mimics the faces we make and is quick to pick up on things.  He is so much fun!
