Practicing Sitting Up

We have been putting Grayson in his Bumbo chair more lately.  He is a strong boy and good at holding his head up.  I was playing with him one day and for some reason, he got the biggest kick out of this toy, so we had to capture the moment.

Grayson Eating Cereal

After Grayson's four month appointment, we got the go ahead to start Grayson on solid foods.  Our first adventure was to try rice cereal.  He's been eating it for about two weeks now and has made some great progress.  We don't have a highchair yet, so I had Trevor hold him the first time I fed him.  We want to wait and get a highchair after we move, so that we have one less thing to move.

The first time we fed him the rice cereal, we had some of our friends over for dinner, so they were nice enough to help us document the event.  He made the funniest faces and first and was really not sure what to do with the spoon.  He did, however, eat a little bit. I didn't make too much just in case he didn't like it.  I didn't want to push it on his first try.

I love these moments of 'firsts.'  It is so fun and special to share them and to see the world through a child's eyes.  It is so fun to see how excited he gets with everything new that he sees and the new things that he gets to experience.  What a blessing and a joy to be a part of that.

Now that he is a little more experienced with eating the cereal, he eats a whole 1/2 cup of cereal every time.  It still takes him a few bites where he is looking at me like I'm a crazy person, but then I can't feed him fast enough.  He is a quick learner and now holds his mouth open like a little bird waiting for each bite.  He tries to 'help' me too by trying to put the spoon in his mouth (his aim is not that great) or push my hand closer or grab the whole bowl.  Sometimes it's like a wrestling match, but it is so fun to watch him.






After the first time feeding him (Notice the use of the swing as our make shift high chair.  Hey use what you've got right?) we realized clothing was just a silly idea, so now he is stripped down to his diaper before meal times.  He is a huge mess by the end either way, but he's a little easier to hose off.

It even ends up on the back of his neck, still trying to figure out how he manages that.  Check out the awesome fat rolls on those adorable thighs.

Always Busy

Grayson had his four month check up this week.  He is doing well!  He is in the 50th percentile on all his indicators:

Weight: 14 lbs 3 oz

Height: 25"

He is getting to be so big, I can't believe it.  He is ahead of the game on his physical development and the our pediatrician always comments on his great muscle tone.  

I had to include this picture.  I introduced Grayson to Einstein, my fat stuffed monkey.  He had a lot of fun playing with him and trying to chew on him as much as possible, it was really funny to watch him.

We are moving in about two weeks to an apartment closer to the law school.  Since Trevor didn't start his internship until Wednesday this week, we were able to put quite a dent in packing.  It has finally hit me that we really are moving.  For me, it's when you take the pictures down that it finally registers.  We've started piling up boxes in our second bedroom.  I have to say the hand truck that we have was probably the best wedding present we got.  It has made life so much easier for all of our moves!  I'm really excited to be moving to our new place, but I will really miss our ward (congregation).  At least we are not moving to a new state, so I can still go to book group and see all of my friends regularly.  I am also excited because our apartment is right next to a strip mall with great shops and two grocery stores!  This could be dangerous.

Mother's Day

This was my first Mother's Day since Grayson was born and it was wonderful!  When we got back from DC Saturday evening, Trevor took Grayson and told me they needed some guy time and I was not allowed in the second bedroom.  A little while later, I heard the bathroom sink running and I asked if he was done and I was allowed to come in.  He told me things hadn't worked out exactly like he planned and I was going to get my present that night.  I sat on the couch and Trevor came out holding a bag and Grayson was holding my card, what a cute image of my two wonderful boys.  The best part, Trevor made me the card!  You will see in the pictures why I had to get my present that night.

Trevor put Grayson's hand print on the card, but the ink didn't come off.  He knew I would notice a blue hand and want an explanation, so I got my present a little early.  I loved this card so much and I will be keeping it for a long time.  Trevor got me an apron from Anthropologie for my gift. I oogle over those aprons every time I go in the store and I was so excited to get this apron!  Although, now I have to admit I'm scared to use it because it's really pretty.

For dinner that night, Trevor made me homemade vegetable lasagna.  He even made the noodles himself!  It was delicious.  I was really impressed especially since he planned it the night before.  He made me a tasty cake for dessert.  How did I get so lucky?

Slippery Baby

Trevor and I have been amazed at how fast Grayson has improved his rolling skills.  It was only a few weeks ago that he rolled from his back to his stomach and now he doesn't stay still.  I reach to grab the diaper rash cream and he's already on his tummy.  I'm amazed at how fast he can move!  This picture will definitely be good blackmail when he gets older.  You will note the diaper in the background.  I was trying to change his diaper and he slipped away from me.  It made me laugh.

Here he is supposed to be taking a nap.  I now no longer put anything in his bed with him.  No more blankets for this little wiggly guy.

I always have to make sure he's buckled in when he is in his bouncer now and keep a close eye on him.  I think he had just noticed the bright fish print on the seat.  What a funny kid!

He always sleeps on his stomach now too, even though I always put him down on his back.  He scared me at first because I thought he couldn't breath, but I've gotten more use to him sleeping on his stomach now.  He likes to sleep with his fingers in his mouth and his butt up in the air.  It is too cute.  

It is truly amazing how fast he is changing and growing!  I can't believe it.  I love to watch him.

Weekend in DC

We decided to spend the weekend in DC to kick off our summer and celebrate Trevor finishing his first year of law school.  We stayed at the Hotel Palomar  near Dupont Circle.  It was a really fun hotel and I loved all the little hints of animal print!  Check out the carpet!  That's right, it's alligator print.

When there are wine glasses in your hotel room, you know you're at a nice place.  Also, we couldn't believe all the food in the fridge!

I love, love, loved this bathroom.  I actually took some close up pictures so I can log them away in my 'someday' file.

There was a leopard print blanket on the bed and Grayson seemed to like it.  This was his first stay in a hotel.  He did ok with sleeping, but he was definitely too excited to look around so it made getting him to sleep a little more interesting.  We got to our hotel Friday afternoon and so we decided to do some sight seeing in the evening.  We walked around Dupont Circle and we went to the White House and saw the other Federal buildings in the area.  It was a lot of fun.

I had to try out the awesome animal print bath robes while we were relaxing for the evening.

Saturday we spent on the Mall.  We went to the Smithsonian castle first and at breakfast at a cafe.  We looked at the exhibits there and then we went to the air and space museum.

Grayson was in the stroller for part of the time, but then we moved him to the carrier and he loved looking around!!  He had a good time and looked at all the planes and was talking to them.  It was really cute.  He is a really curious little guy.

 Our final stop for the trip was the capitol.  Neither of us had been to see it before, so it was fun to walk down to the end of the mall and see it.  Overall, it was a good trip and we learned a lot about traveling with a baby.  We figured it would be better to learn  on a shorter trip instead of when we drive to Alabama.

Sleepy boy

Ever since Grayson was born, I have had a hard time keeping him awake when he's eating.  This is a common problem I'm sure, but it makes me laugh how deep asleep he can get.  We took some funny pictures when he was only halfway through eating.  This is me trying to get him to burp and he just wants to sleep.

 This was another night when he was smaller.  Usually at night he falls asleep on my shoulder while I'm burping him after he is done eating.  Then I can just put him right in bed.  I think it is so cute and so funny.  Sometimes he'll be so asleep and then I put him in bed and he will wake up after a few minutes.  I just don't know how he does it.

I'm also amazed at the places he can sleep!  It doesn't look comfortable but he'll sleep for hours.  Trevor and I have talked about how cute he is when he is sleeping.  Sometimes we just stand there and watch him. How did we get so lucky? 

Finals Time

Trevor has been really busy because finals started this week.  He has two finals under his belt now and two more to go next week.  I can't believe how fast his first year of law school has gone by.  After his final on Thursday, Trevor took a little bit of a break and we went out and had some fun.  We went to the playground at our complex first.

Of course we had to put Grayson's sunglasses on.  He will actually open his eyes a little now when he wears them.  We went to the swings first.

Then we thought we would try the slide, forgetting that this stuff was made for little people.  There was a 'gate' like thing at the top, but somehow my sweet 6'1" husband managed to squeeze through.  He didn't cry, so at least he didn't hate it.

It was a really hot day so we didn't stay outside too long.  I wanted to give Grayson a ride on this cute motorcycle and I almost fell on my butt when I sat on it, thank goodness I didn't fall.  It made for a good laugh though.  After the park, we went to Whole Foods and got lunch and a few things we needed.  We love eating lunch there, so it was a real treat!

It was a busy week this week for me as well.  I helped with the youth at my church Tuesday evening and taught them how to decorate cupcakes.  It was so fun to be able to work with the girls again.  Then Wednesday evening I hosted book group at my house.  We had so much fun!  We had a pot luck dinner, a raffle drawing and a great discussion with just as wonderful company.  I have made such great friends here.  Needless to say I was missing some one-on-one time with Trevor so after he finished some studying last night, we had a 'slumber party.'  We used to do this all the time before we had Grayson so it was really fun to do it again.  We blow up our air mattress, make it comfy with blankets and pillows and then get some treats and snuggle up to watch a movie.  Of course, we still sleep in our bed, the way we look at it our bed is just too comfortable to actually spend the night on our air mattress.  It was fun to bring back a tradition.

Grayson Rolling Over

On Tuesday, I had such a proud moment, Grayson rolled over from his back to his tummy!  He had already rolled from tummy to back when he was 2.5 weeks, so we were excited to see the next step.  He has been trying to roll over for a while.  He would get about 3/4 of the way and then get stuck on his arm.  Then he would end up rubbing his face on his blanket and get really annoyed because he couldn't make it all the way over.  He really likes to be able to see things now and gets annoyed when he can't get to or see his toys.  

When he finally did it we were actually in the kitchen getting lunch, I walked back into the living room and saw this:

I saw the last final roll and I was so excited.  I'm sure Trevor thought I had just lost my mind because I started saying his name and pointing.  The funniest thing is when he first started rolling over he would kind of face plant because he would have both arms by his side or one stuck under him.  He is getting  a lot better with getting his arm out from under him.  He doesn't stay on his back very long these days.
